Goldsmith has four rooms, each for two people, in a single house in Sibiu's historic centre. They look onto the inner courtyard or over the city. Between the gate and the courtyard runs a vaulted passage that does the work of a lounge: sofas, tables, woven runners and the writing board.
There is no reception. The access code arrives before you do, and after 22:00 the key is collected from a safe. Guests say consistently that the hosts answer quickly on chat, even though nobody is at the door.
The house is rated 3 stars. Payment is in cash, and Romanian holiday vouchers are accepted.

The courtyard
The wall of vine
The courtyard is closed on every side. One whole wall, as tall as the house, is covered in wild vine; strings of bulbs run across it. The property describes it as “împrejmuit de viță de vie sălbatică” — enclosed by wild vine.
In summer the wall is green. In autumn the whole of it turns red. In winter what is left is the tracery of stems on old brick.
Guests use it for coffee in the morning and in the evening. After the location, it is the thing reviews mention most.

What differs between them is the floor area, the view and, in the studio's case, a kitchen of its own. In every room: private bathroom with a shower, flat-screen tv with cable channels, free wi-fi, minibar with a fridge, kettle and coffee machine, desk.
From Piața Mică you go in under Turnul Scării Aurarilor — a vaulted passage in the city's second ring of fortifications — and down a staircase into Piața Aurarilor. Strada Târgului starts immediately after. The house is the first one on it.
The drop in level and the wooden gate produce the thing guests keep describing: a few minutes from the centre, without the noise of it. On Booking.com the location scores 9.7.

Distances are rounded and measured from the gate. On foot the walk is a little longer, and the way from Piața Aurarilor up towards the centre is uphill.
On the wall of the passage, just inside the gate, hangs a board with the word for welcome chalked on it in some eighteen languages. It gets rewritten now and then.

How you get in
The house has no parking of its own. Guests who came by car write that they found space on the surrounding streets, and that manoeuvring on Strada Târgului is tight. If you are driving, ask the host where it is easiest to stop.
